SOCIALIZED MEDICINE III
The recent passage of federal healthcare is a watershed moment in American political history. Unless it is stopped, the finest healthcare system in the world will be converted into a bureaucratic socialistic quagmire. In every country where medical treatment is under government control, the results are tragic.
Long lines of patients waiting for simple procedures are common while those needing a serious operation for problems related to the heart or other vital organs can expect to wait for extended periods. Many die before there is room at a hospital or before a physician becomes available. Overall, the quality of care deteriorates substantially.
A recent USA Today/Gallup poll showed that two-thirds of Americans feel the healthcare bill is too expensive and gives far to much authority to the government. They are correct.
For the first time in our nation’s 234 year history, the government has come between doctors and patients. The Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare will now decide which medical procedures may be used by physicians. That means he could outlaw some procedures currently in use. Patients would no longer be able to choose their doctor and their method of treatment.
The government is not qualified to dictate these life and death decisions. Millions would die because they were denied necessary life-saving procedures.
The bill punishes families earning over $250,000 per year. If they decide not to buy health insurance, they would have to pay a tax of 2.5 % on their TOTAL income. (Business profit, salaries, interest income, profit from selling their home, etc.). These are the small businessmen who provide most of the jobs. By punishing them for being in business and hiring employees, the government will drive them out of business. The result will be MORE UNEMPLOYMENT.
The new bill will also place crushing burdens on businesses with more than 50 employees. If a 50-plus employee business owner does not provide healthcare for his workers, he faces a fine of $2,000 for each employee. As a predictable consequence, employers with over 50 employees will fire enough employees so that the total will be 49 employees or less.
The result will not be more employees with health insurance. The result will be greater unemployment. Our country is already in a serious depression. The media tells us we have 10% unemployment. (Those people receiving unemployment insurance payments.) They are not counting the “under employed” (people who have given up looking for a job.) The “under employed” represent another 7%. The true unemployment figure is 17%.
Any reasonable person would say that 17% unemployment ( 1 out of 6 Americans) means we are in a serious depression. Now a Socialized Medicine bill comes along which could drive millions more Americans into unemployment.
